Can't Export Report to PDF File

Issue:

You have Grain Trader or GT Weighbridge installed. Whilst previewing a report you click the Export button. You select Acrobat Format (PDF) from the Format list and choose a destination then click OK. You select the page range to print and click OK again but nothing happens and the PDF file is not created.

Background:

Grain Trader and GT Weighbridge incorporate an industry-standard third-party reporting engine, Crystal Reports®, to provide report preview and printing functionality. Some time ago the ownership of the company that produces this software changed, and as a result the directory structure used to install some of the support files required by it also changed, partly because a component of that structure incorporates the company name. Furthermore, later versions of the Crystal Reports software offer additional functionality but at the same time some older support files are still required to ensure backward compatibility.

The end result is that in order to provide some additional functionality two different versions of two different Crystal Reports support files must be available on the user's hard disk at the same time. CDA were not aware of this requirement until investigations following reports of problems by users eventually unearthed a Crystal Reports Knowledge Base article on the issue. As a result, some installations of even-numbered versions did not provide both versions of the two files and the problem described above is evident.

Resolution:

Note: The procedure described below should only be attempted by competent users. If having read it you are unsure or not confident please refer this matter to your IT support personnel for resolution rather than risk damaging existing Windows or other software installation(s).

  1. Using Windows Explorer or My Computer, see which of the four files listed below are present on your hard disk. For those that are present, compare the version numbers to those shown. To identify the version number, right-click the filename in Windows Explorer or My Computer and select Properties from the popup menu, then select the Version tab on the Properties window. If any of the files in the locations specified have a version number higher than those shown below you should stop and seek assistance from your IT support personnel. In general you should not overwrite a file with another file of the same name but with a lower version number. If you do you may cause some functionality in other programs to break.
    Filename Version
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\2.0\bin\crtslv.dll 8.6.1.726
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\2.0\bin\ExportModeller.dll 8.6.2.440
    C:\Program Files\Seagate Software\Shared\crtslv.dll 8.5.0.144
    C:\Program Files\Seagate Software\Shared\ExportModeller.dll 8.6.0.37
  2. Print this document for reference and close all running applications.
  3. Assuming the version numbers of existing files are not higher than those shown, make a copy of the files found and rename the copy by adding .bak to the end of the filename. This will allow you to revert to the previous installation should problems occur.
  4. Download the attached file Crystal_DLLs.zip and save it in the root directory of your hard disk (i.e. C:\).
  5. Double-click the zip file to open it. Depending on your version of Windows and whether you have a zip file utility program like WinZip installed you may see either a list of the files contained in the zip file, or a folder-like structure resembling My Computer itself. If your PC doesn't know what to do with a zip file you may need to download and install WinZip from here before continuing.
  6. Extract (or save) the four files into the appropriate folders as per the zip file. If the files are not installed into the locations shown this fix will not work. If prompted whether to overwrite existing copies of the files, answer Yes.
  7. You now need to register the new files with Windows. Perform the following for each of the four files:
    1. Using Windows Explorer or My Computer, navigate to the folder containing the file.
    2. Click the Start button and select Run... from the menu.
    3. In the Open box type regsvr32 followed by a space.
    4. Select the file in Windows Explorer or My Computer and drag its name into the Run window. Drop the filename just after the regsvr32 that you typed earlier, then click OK. You should get a message saying that DLLRegisterServer... succeeded.
  8. When finished the above, run Grain Trader or GT Weighbridge and see whether the export to PDF functions now work.

If the above procedure does not resolve the problem please contact CDA Support.
